Conservation Tips

    • Automatic Dishwashers use 15 gallons every cycle no matter how many dishes are loaded. Be sure to load to capacity.

    • Turn water off while shaving or brushing teeth.

    • Check every faucet for leaks. Just a slow drip can waste 15 to 20 gallons a day up to 6,000 gallons a year.

    • Check your toilets for leaks. This can be done by putting a few drops of food color in your tank, watch for a few minutes to see if the color shows up in the bowl. If color appears in the bowl, the toilet is leaking. Leaky toilets can lose up to 100 gallons a day or up to 30,000 gallons in a year. This is the most common reason for a high water bill.

    • Limit your lawn watering. Water only when necessary before 10:00am.

    • Use your meter to detect leaks. Simply turn off all taps and water using appliances in the evening before going to bed and take a reading off your meter. When you wake up, take another reading to see if the meter has changed. If so, you know you have a leak.
